Guardiola reveals: De Bruyne was too expensive for Bavaria
Manchester City coach explains why Kevin De Bruyne didn’t move to Munich. He also gives details of his tenure with FC Bayern Bayern.
Pep Guardiola has stated that a change from Kevin De Bruyne to FC Bayern failed because of the required transfer fee.
“FC Bayern didn’t want to pay him a large sum of money,” said coach Manchester City at a press conference.Everything we did in Munich happened in accordance.”
After an outstanding season at VfL Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne had changed to the Citizens, replacing 74 million Euro at that time was a record for the Bundesliga.
A few days ago, teammate Ilkay Gündogan suspected in the Zeit magazine that Guardiola had left FCB for Manchester due to the lack of transfers from De Bruyne and Leroy Sane.Gündogan should have changed to Munich, but there was no transfer either.
However, Guardiola denied this:”They said that Leroy Sane was interested. In my time at FC Bayern he was not.For Kevin De Bruyne it was the same thing:”Transfers would always be done in accordance with the club management”.
The Spaniard also explained that he still has Munich in his heart,”It was a pleasure to have been there.I still have an apartment in Munich.I’ll always have lots of friends there.”
Guardiola was a coach for three years with FCB, but went to Manchester in 2016 after the end of his contract.
“It is said that I left FC Bayern Munich because of disagreements with the club management.I don’t know why they say such things. There’s absolutely nothing there.I was very happy during my time at FC Bayern Bayern,”Guardiola said.
“I will always be grateful to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß for the opportunity to work for one of the best clubs in the world.I went to England because the situation arose.”
Despite the turmoil in Munich, the coach believes that his ex-club’s season will be a successful one,”I wish Carlo Ancelotti and the fantastic players all the best.I’m sure FC Bayern will be having a great season as usual.”
After three matchdays, the Munich team are only sixth in the Bundesliga.
