Red Bull Air Race: Dolderer up early on the Lausitzring
Matthias Dolderer leaves the Red Bull Air Race at the Lausitzring early after a mistake.A Japanese wins, the title fight remains exciting.
Matthias Dolderer messed up his home game at the Red Bull Air Race on the Lausitzring.
The defending champion retired in the Round of 14 in the third round, after he grazed a pylon with his machine.
“This is brutal, especially in front of the fans,”said Dolderer:”I could sink into the ground.I’m very disappointed.Thanks to all who are here.”
His opponent Juan Velarde from Spain entered the next round without any problems and even managed to make it into the last four.
In addition to Velarde, there were also Matt Hall, Yoshihide Muroya and Martin Sonka who fought for victory.The Czech Sonka had taken the lead in the overall standings at the last race in Porto, but had to settle for third place at the Lausitzring.
Nevertheless, Sonka maintained his lead in the overall standings with 63 points, ahead of Muroya (59, Japan), who took second place.Behind them are Pete McLeod (56, Canada) and Kirby Chambliss (52, USA).It was Muroya’s third win this season.
