Mustafi doesn’t give up World Cup dream
The world champion is sticking to his dream of winning the World Cup despite not being nominated for the last international matches. The performance at FC Arsenal gives him courage.
World champion Shkodran Mustafi has not given up his dream of the 2018 World Cup, despite the fact that he has not been considered for the recent qualifying matches.
Although he doesn’t think about the tournament in Russia on a daily basis, he knows what it’s all about:”Here at Arsenal in the league and in the international games, his performance is always shown, and the rest comes on its own,”said the 25-year-old.
Mustafi was not nominated by national coach Joachim Löw as one of four Confederation Cup winners in the Czech Republic (2:1) and Norway (6:0).It was also a surprise because the two world champions Jerome Boateng and Benedikt Höwedes were missing.
“Of course I would have liked to have been there, but that was fine for me,”says the Arsenal pro.At the start of the season he had a small gap in his training after the Mini-WM.But that’s over now.
“I was able to make optimal use of the international break to work on myself individually. Now I feel in top shape again and can say I’m back to 100 percent.”
Last weekend Mustafi proved his skills against Chelsea 0-0 last weekend,”It was a very decent game for us.We even had the chance to win and we didn’t let much defensively,”said the world champion.
However, with FC Arsenal it is currently running at a mixed pace. The Gunners only scored seven points in five games. However, the performance against reigning champions Chelsea makes him optimistic, Mustafi said.
Team mate Per Mertesacker is also an important factor for improved performance, according to the England legionary:”Even if he does not play every game, Per helps us in training with his experience on a daily basis.”In the FA Cup final in May, everyone saw that he’s still got it.”
