Brisant:”Torpedo” Kvyat to support Vettel now
Ferrari gets the Russian Daniil Kvyat as a development driver. Sebastian Vettel doesn’t have the best memories of his new team mate.
Sebastian Vettel will be working with an old acquaintance at Ferrari in the future.
Daniil Kwjat (23) has signed up as a development driver for the Formula 1 racing team, the Italians announced on Wednesday via Twitter. Ferrari did not specify any further details of the cooperation.
In the 2016 season, Kwjat provoked accidents with Vettel in the two consecutive races in China and Russia and caused a lot of trouble for the Germans. Vettel called Kvyat a “torpedo”then.
The Russian was transferred to the training team Toro Rosso by Red Bull Racing immediately after the Russian race.
There he lost his job in the course of last year’s season, the task at Ferrari now at least secures his stay in the Formula 1 environment. Kwjat will go on simulator rides, but Ferrari did not tell us at first whether he is also scheduled as a substitute driver.
For a long time, the 23-year-old had also hoped for Williams’ last free Formula 1 cockpit, but was probably outdone by his fellow countryman Sergei Sirotkin. The 22-year-old, supported by the Russian SMP bank, has become a clear favourite for Williams’ job. Pascal Wehrlein (Worndorf) will also only be given opportunities for outsiders.
