Ecclestone fears Ferrari could leave Formula 1
The former Formula 1 boss does not rule out a Scuderia exit. The Ferrari president is only concerned with the economic success of the brand.
Ferrari is an institution in motorsport, Formula 1 would be inconceivable without the racing team.
But this could soon change if you believe Bernie Ecclestone. The long-time boss of Formula 1 is sceptical about the future of Sebastian Vettel’s team under President Sergio Marchionne.
“The most important thing for him is that he can offer shareholders a good business result. If Marchionne doesn’t like the way Formula 1 is taking, he will stop. Without a doubt,”said Ecclestone in Motorsport aktuell.
The Italian had most recently threatened to drop out of the premier class of motorsport if “Ferrari’s unique position among the new owners of Formula 1 should not be strengthened.
According to Ecclestone, head marketer of Formula 1 until 2016, Ferrari could live without participating in the PS circus.
He does not support the demand of many teams for a budget ceiling”You only need three teams that can win. That’s enough. The rest doesn’t matter,”said the 87-year-old.
