Formula 1 back to Nürburgring?
Does Formula 1 return to the Nürburgring? Circuit managing director Mirco Markfort confirms talks with the Formula 1 owners of Liberty Media.
Formula 1 is possibly on the verge of returning to the Nürburgring, which is steeped in tradition.
Mirco Markfort, managing director of the route in the Eifel, confirmed corresponding talks with the owners of Liberty Media’s royal class.
It would be “very welcome”if Ferrari star Sebastian Vettel and Co. stopped at the Nürburgring again in 2019. But this is “only possible”if “sensible economic conditions are taken into account”, Markfort told the trade magazine Autosport.
In 2013, a Formula 1 race was held at the Nürburgring, but in 2015 and 2017, the operators were unable to raise the entry fee called for by former head promoter Bernie Ecclestone.
Recently, however, the new owners had always emphasised that the traditional routes in Europe were particularly important for the Formula 1 brand. The German Grand Prix will take place in 2018 on 22nd January. July on the Hockenheimring.
