WEC 2018/19 season: G-Drive plans partial withdrawal
The Russian LMP2 team G-Drive will not be competing in the entire super season of the WEC 2018/19, but will concentrate on the European Le Mans Series.
According to information from’ Motorsport-Total. com’, the long-standing LMP2 team G-Drive will not be competing in the complete super season 2018/19 of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The Russian team, which won the LMP2 classification in 2015 and last year’s full season with an Oreca 07, will instead focus on the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
G-Drive had won the team championship there in the last two years. G-drive sports boss and regular Roman Russinow confirmed to’ Motorsport-Total. com’ that his team will use two Oreca in 2018.
One of the cars will be used on behalf of G-Drive by the French team Graff, which fought with the Russians for the title last season. James Allen, Enzo Guibbert and Jose Gutierrez have already been confirmed as drivers.
The second Orcea Gibson will be used by Team TDS in the WEC as it was last season. One of the drivers of this car will be Rusinow. According to information from’ Motorsport-Total. com’, G-Drive is currently negotiating with a former Formula 1 driver for one of the other driver seats.
In the 2018/19 season, G-Drive will only compete at selected races in the WEC. A start with a car has so far been confirmed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018 and at the start of the season in Spa-Francorchamps at the beginning of May 2018.
