“Surprised and angry”: Draxler has had enough
Munich and Paris – Julian Draxler is served after the PSG out in the Champions League against Real Madrid and voices strong criticism. Frust also causes his reserve role.
When Julian Draxler was asked about Paris Saint-Germain’s return to the Champions League to see if there was any need for a breakthrough at the Sheikh Club, he almost laughed a bit.
“Change is always such a word,”said the German international player on ZDF and recalled:”In the summer we took 400 million euros into our hands. One can also speak of radical change.”
Once again, as in previous years, it has helped nothing:”If it were simply enough to invest hundreds of millions of euros a year to win, football would not be the most popular and emotional sport in the world,”said the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport.
Le Figaro criticized:”Promises, always promises, and even more promises. And in the end, a huge disappointment.”
Also, and especially for Draxler again.
For an hour he had already had to watch from the outside how his colleagues ran almost bloodlessly against Real Madrid. Once again he had to make do with a seat on the bench in the Paris star ensemble.
Draxler had calculated his chances for the start eleven because of the loss of Neymar. But coach Unai Emery replaced the superstar with Angel Di Maria and spared the risk of sending Draxler and the Argentinean to the field with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.
It didn’t exactly add to Draxler’s mood when Javier Pastore was replaced first after 59 minutes. And when the world champion was about to go into action a few minutes later and was sent back in the phase of Marco Verratti and Emery’s 1-1 relegation, he finally did not understand the world anymore.
“That was insensitive. I didn’t quite understand. The 1-1 went down, but that didn’t help us any,”Draxler criticized his coach after the 2-1 defeat:”That’s why I thought we should keep going and play aggressively. I really don’t know what was going on. I was really surprised and a little angry.”
Plain language instead of diplomacy – understandable after another frustrating evening for Draxler, who had already expressed his resentment after the first leg.
“That was far too little of us today,”Draxler said. But when we deliver such a game where there’s no train in it, no explosiveness – then you can’t turn Real Madrid off,”Draxler was particularly upset by the way in which he was so” sand- and soundlessly eliminated “.
Unlike Draxler, a teammate took Emery under cover,”Our coach does a great job. Today we wanted to get the opponent into trouble, but we didn’t succeed. But that wasn’t due to the coach, but rather to Real Madrid’s class,”said Thiago Motta.
Well, well. Real pointed out the limits of Paris, but this was also due to the fearful attitude of the hosts, which was apparently what Emery wanted:”It was important to keep zero from the very beginning,”the Spaniard explained.
But she could hardly notice that his team needed at least two goals. Draxler also missed this intensity:”We pushed the ball back and forth a lot, but you can’t buy anything for it. You can’t just hope that a goal is scored.”
TV expert Oliver Kahn also hit the same score:”The Buxe was full of them. This is a team that has to be judged by the highest standards – and that was nothing at all today.”
In the coming season, PSG will take a new start with the Qatar millions.
“We will not make any changes, we will continue with the project,”announced club boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi immediately after the game and emphasized:”We are happy with our investments. We believe in our players.”
However, if the players still believe in the PSG project, at least Draxler seems to have had enough of Parisian title dreams disappearing into thin air.
Especially when he has to see the whole year round as a noble joker of the bank.
