“Absolute stroke of luck”: Gerrard thanks teacher Klopp
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard talks about working with Jürgen Klopp at his first coaching station. Klopp has a lot of advice for him.
Steven Gerrard earns his first coaching merits at the club where he is already a legend. The 37-year-old has been responsible for the U18 at FC Liverpool for six months.
In an interview with Klub-TV, Gerrard talks about his first steps and his special relationship with Jürgen Klopp, the professional coach of the Reds.
“I have often picked up the phone, written a message or asked him at the training center in Melwood. For me it’s like gold dust – an absolute stroke of luck,” says Gerrard gratefully about the help and advice Klopp gives him: “I enjoy my new role and make a lot of mistakes. But beyond the cameras – Jürgen advised me so.”
Klopp is thrilled that a player of the Gerrards class starts his career at a comparatively low level.
“I’m just trying to grow and get used to a completely different role,” said Gerrard, who played for Liverpool for 26 years. Now I have more respect for our coaches. I thought I was the best coach and manager in the world. I apologize for that. And I understand what a hard job this is.”
Klopp praised this statement: “You have to be diligent and interested, then it is possible. And then it’s a big help if you were a world-class player.”
