UEFA reforms Champions League
In the Champions and Europa League, the teams will soon be allowed to make a fourth substitution. However, two conditions must be met.
In the knockout matches of the Champions League and the Europa League, teams may make a fourth substitution in the event of extra time starting next season.
This was announced by the European Football Union (UEFA) on Tuesday. In the finals of the European club competitions and in the Super Cup, 23 instead of 18 players may now be part of the squad.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) officially included the fourth substitution in the football rules at the beginning of March.
This was preceded by the decision, which was also taken for the World Cup in Russia (14. June till 15. July) is a two-year test phase in more than a dozen competitions.
Since the end of 2016, for example, the regulation has already applied to the DFB Cup.
