Gündogan after injury:”I’m not the same man anymore.”
Ilkay Gündogan is about to make his comeback in Manchester City’s starting line-up.The international player looks back on his injury break.
Ilkay Gündogan’s suffering lasted more than nine months after his cruciate ligament rupture in December against Watford.
Now, however, the international is back on the pitch for Manchester City – and before his possible comeback on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup against West Bromwich, he appears to be pensive:”It was a long wait. And it was tough,”revealed the 26-year-old to the Daily Mail.
“It was sad to watch the games only in the stands or in front of the TV.I’m used to playing every three or four days.If an injury takes that away from you, it’s funny.”
Gündogan also found it hard to part with the team:”You don’t feel like a member of the group anymore. You no longer travel with the team, do everything on your own or with the physiotherapists.
The midfielder can now look back on a long list of patients. The national team had already missed most of the 2013/14 season, when Borussia Dortmund was still serving at the time, due to a back injury.
The frequent setbacks have left their mark on Gündogan. The 26-year-old openly admits:”If I said I was the same player as a year before, I would lie.You don’t feel as invulnerable as you did before.”
At his Premier League comeback on Saturday he was awarded the 66th place in the Premier League.I’ll replace you in a minute.
“What a special day for me,”twittered Gündogan after the game,”My first outing on the pitch after such a long time and it feels fantastic! Thanks to all!”
