Next WRC test: Sebastien Loeb drives Citroen on gravel
Record World Champion Sebastien Loeb completes his second WRC test this week with the Citroen C3 – this time the Frenchman drives on gravel in Spain.
A few days after his third place at the Rallycross World Championship in Latvia, Sebastien Loeb is back in a World Rally Car.The record champion will once again be in the Citroen C3 starting Wednesday. The Frenchman will test the car for the first time on gravel near Barcelona.Loeb is part of the preparation programme for the Rallye Spain, which will take place from 6th to 10th March.till 8.October and is a mix of asphalt and gravel.
At the beginning of August, Loeb took his first step into the steering wheel of a current WRC and tested the Citroen on asphalt near Strasbourg in Alsace.Citroen’s head of motorsport Yves Matton already hinted at the fact that he wanted to make it possible for Loeb to carry out a gravel test:”His feedback on asphalt was useful and will also be the case on gravel,”says the Belgian.Matton has also fueled rumours over the past few weeks about a possible comeback of the record world champion.
Next year Loeb could compete in some rallies if he wants to.If Sebastien Ogier returns from M-Sport to Citroen, Matton wants to make sure that there will be no more stable wars like in 2011.Loeb himself hinted last week that the Volkswagen dominance in the World Rally Cross Championship was “frustrating” for everyone.Peugeot must invest more, otherwise a continuation of the program would have little sense.
Since the end of 2015, when Citroen Loeb no longer provided a car for the WTCC, the Frenchman has been under contract with Peugeot. In the summer, the PSA Group agreed that Citroen also has access to this exceptional talent. This made it possible to test drive the C3.For 2018 it is currently only certain that Loeb will participate with Peugeot in the Dakar Rally. His further program is not fixed yet.
