Brawn sees Vettel in front of Hamilton in the title fight
Despite the disaster in Singapore, the Formula 1 boss still sees Vettel at eye level with Lewis Hamilton. He compares the German with a motorsport legend.
Despite the Ferrari disaster in Singapore, Ross Brawn continues to believe that Sebastian Vettel has a chance to win the title.
“The World Cup is far from over. There are still six races to go.Vettel and Ferrari are so strong that they can still win the World Championship on their own,”said the Formula 1 boss of Sport Bild.
Four-time champion Vettel is already 28 points behind Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton after his starting accident last Sunday.
Brawn does not blame the German for the crash on the German, who rushed together with his Ferrari colleague Kimi Räikkönen and, like Red Bull pilot Max Verstappen, was eliminated.
“Something like this can always happen.A typical launch accident,”says the 62-year-old.
The driver of the premier class of automotive sports sees parallels to his own time as Technical Director at Ferrari (1997 to 2006).
“It is inevitable that Sebastian and Ferrari remind me of my time in red with a German driver, and Sebastian is very similar to Michael (Schumacher, Note by Red.) in his way of standing behind the team and seeing himself as part of the whole,”said Brawn.
He “recognizes” the same discipline and focus of bringing Ferrari back to the top. There’s still a tough fight between Lewis and him, but if he makes it, he’s more than deserved it.”
