In the new edition of the last year’s finals, champions and leaders Munich are conceding a bitter home defeat against Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
Master Red Bull Munich won a tough defeat against Grizzly’s Wolfsburg in the DEL on the fourth last day of the preliminary round. On Thursday evening, the residents of Munich lost 0:4 (0:2,0:1,0:1,0:1) in their home arena.
With 103 points on the scoresheet and a lead of twelve points over Nuremberg Ice Tigers, the leader Red Bull is first place but hardly to be taken. Nuremberg will play on Friday evening at the Krefeld Penguins. Wolfsburg climbed to fourth place with 74 points.
In the fight for direct play-off participation, the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven had to take a 1:5 (1:2,0:1,0:2) home defeat against the Adler Mannheim.
With 72 points, the “penguins” have a lead of only two points over the Mannheimers, who are currently ninth in the qualifying round.
In Munich, the German Olympic driver Gerrit Fauser (13th/59th) was doubly successful for the guests from Lower Saxony, and Fabio Pfohl (9th) and Mark Voakes (36th) also met.
In Mannheim’s clear victory, the attackers Marcel Goc and David Wolf, who like Fauser belong to the German squad for Pyeongchang, were among the goalscorers.
