Returning driver Juncadella has an open account with the DTM
Mercedes driver Daniel Juncadella wants to clinch his long-awaited first victory in the DTM 2018, but he knows about the strong competition in his own team.
Another DTM returnee: Daniel Juncadella will make his comeback in the German Touring Car Masters after a break of one year. The Spaniard was already active for Mercedes in the DTM from 2013 to 2016. The best result of the race is two fourth places for the 26-year-old. The alleged podium finish at the Hungaroring 2016 was later withdrawn from Juncadella because of a violation of the technical regulations.
My batteries are fully charged and after a year of transition I am fully motivated to race again,”says Juncadella, who was a substitute driver for the star brand last year.” I want to have a good season and achieve good results, which I haven’t had in the past,”he explains to’ Motorsport-Total. com’.
The first two races of the season are crucial for the rest of the season, he says,”You have to get the most out of it right from the start, so that they can bet on me,”he points out that the DTM is a team sport and that he has to distinguish himself as one of six riders in order to get the best possible support. With Pascal Wehrlein, Gary Paffett, Paul di Resta, Edoardo Mortara and Lucas Auer, Juncadella has five strong team-mates against whom he has to win.
“It’s the last year for Mercedes in the DTM, and we want to finish it in style and say goodbye to the championship,”says the Spaniard and adds:”My main goal is to win a race. And if I could fight for the championship… that would be great, but it depends on many factors, such as the start of the season.”
In addition to his DTM commitment, the rider is also looking at Formula E and GT sport,”I would like to try to get into Formula E. I also hope to race as many races as possible in the Blancpain GT series, in addition to the 24-hour races at Spa and the Nürburgring.”
