Frauenpower: Sauber presents test driver
Tatiana Calderon joins Alfa Romeo Sauber as a test driver. The Colombian is thus the only woman who is under contract with a Formula 1 team.
Colombian Tatiana Calderon has become a test driver for the Formula 1 team Alfa Romeo Sauber. This was announced by the Swiss team on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old was previously under contract to Sauber as a development driver, but after her promotion she could also be used for Friday training sessions in the future. According to the team, however, their tasks primarily consist of “professional racing simulator training units and coaching with race engineers at the factory”.
“I am looking forward to continuing on this positive path together with the team. As a racer, I have continued to evolve and I am convinced that I will make further progress this season,”Calderon said. It will continue to be launched in parallel in the GP3 frame series.
Calderon is currently the only woman with a test driver contract in Formula 1. The first female driver in the royal class was the Italian Maria Teresa de Filippis in 1958, and her countrywoman Lella Lombardi was the only woman to score points at the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix.
Giovanna Amati was the last woman to participate in a qualifying session. In the 1992 season, however, the Italian missed the qualifying for the race in three attempts.
