Spurs receive Juve for showdown
Tottenham and Juventus will face a showdown at London’s Wembley Stadium in the second leg of the Round of 16. At the same time, Manchester City receives FC Basel.
On Wednesday, the Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Juventus Turin (starting at 8.45 pm in the LIVETICKER) in the second leg of the Champions League round.
After a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, the Italians will have to fear for a place in the quarter-finals. Gonzalo Higuain had already led last year’s finalist 2:0 after nine minutes, but had then awarded a penalty kick.
As a result, the Spurs made it through goals scored by Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen to a deserved equaliser and, thanks to the two away goals, are now heading for the return leg in front of their home crowd.
However, after her entry into the Italian Cup Final and her weekend victory in the top game at Lazio Rome, the “Old Lady” is likely to enter the Wembley Stadium game with a good headwind.
A question mark still stands behind the deployment of top striker Higuain. We are hopeful and optimistic that Gonzalo will be present in London,”said head coach Massimiliano Allegri, commenting on the 30-year-old’s injury.
Tottenham have also successfully mastered their dress rehearsal. Against David Wagner’s up-and-comer Huddersfield, there was a 2-0 win this weekend.
With a win against Juventus, the Londoners could reach the quarter-finals for the second time after 2011. However, they have to renounce their regular lawyer Serge Aurier. The Frenchman is suspended from the first leg after his third yellow card.
At the same time, Pep Guardiola’s team will meet FC Basel (from 8.45 pm in the LIVETICKER) in Manchester.
The matter seems to have already been decided after the Citizens’ 4-0 win. Only a big miracle could help the Swiss into the quarter-finals. The star ensemble appears too strong with the two German international players Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gündogan.
Especially the former Dortmund player shone in the first leg. In Basel St. Jakob Park, he managed a double pack.
