DTM 2018: Major sponsors turn their backs on DTM 2018
In the 2018 DTM season there will no longer be any vehicles in the colours of Red Bull and BWT to be seen – only very few “real sponsors” remain.
Even before Mercedes withdraws from the DTM at the end of this year, important sponsors are turning away from the scene. According to information from’ Motorsport-Total. com’, there will no longer be any vehicles in red bull design in the Audi and BMW camps. At Mercedes, the eye-catching pink of the Austrian company BWT will no longer be visible.
The fact that Red Bull won’t have a BMW M4 DTM branded any more has been a certainty since today at the latest. The Munich-based company has presented its car designs for the 2018 season. No sign of Red Bull. The Austrians had so far graced the car of the two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann in a prominent manner.
What’s left of BMW’s partners: their own branches (Driving Experience, BMW Bank) or B2B links (Shell, Samsung SDI and Puma). Only the Deutsche Post on Timo Glock’s car could be dropped into the category Sponsorship.
At Audi, Red Bull says goodbye to Mattias Ekström, the long-time frontman, after his departure. What successor Robin Frijns will wear on his RS5 DTM is still unknown. In the Ingolstadt region, too, the brandings are often characterised by B2B partnerships: Schaeffler, the Hoffmann Group or Castrol fit into this pattern. Often media partnerships are also the background (Playboy, Auto Bild motorsport or Mercedes TV Spielfilm).
As’ Motorsport-Total. com’ has learned from a reliable source, BWT is also turning away from the DTM – at least as a pink design element on the cars.”The season finale at Hockenheim in 2017 still looked like a factory event from which they came,”comments an insider. In October last year BWT allegedly invited around 8,000 employees and partners to Hockenheim – Pink everywhere. It remains to be seen which replacement Mercedes can present.
