Sagnol pulls off “bench press” Draxler
Willy Sagnol analyzes the end of Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League. The German national players at PSG are not doing well.
Despite record spending, Paris St. Germain in the Champions League once again did not go beyond the round of sixteen.
After the defeat of Real Madrid in the royal league, criticism of the billion-euro project in the French capital has been voiced. The former French national team member Willy Sagnol, assistant coach of FC Bayern Munich until October, also sees a lot of problems with PSG.
“The general problem with PSG is that this is still a young club, there is still something missing the identity and culture”, said the former Bayern professional in the kicker.
The Parisians’ gaming system is not mature enough for the 40-year-old, too much tailored to superstar Neymar:”It was clear that it would be difficult without Neymar. In a way, a team is of course dependent on such an exceptional player,”said Sagnol referring to the injury-related failure of the record transfer in the second leg against Real.
While Neymar is irreplaceable for Paris in Sagnol’s eyes, German international players Julian Draxler and Kevin Trapp have no great future for the French champions:”Draxler doesn’t play a big part in the big games. He’s usually sitting there on the bench.”
The offensive player had given free rein to his resentment after the defeat in the second half of the game, criticising the team’s performance and his coach Unai Emery harshly.
Sagnol also has a clear opinion on Trapp:”For four or five months now, the hierarchy in the gate has been clear. And without Keeper Areola, the defeat for Paris would have been more than 1-2.”
