Ferrari sets the pace – Alonso rolls out again
Kimi Räikkönen makes people listen up in the morning of the last winter test day. The Mercedes from Hamilton runs like clockwork. McLaren continues the run of mishaps.
Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen set the clear best time on the last day of the Formula 1 test drives at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Friday morning.
After four hours, the former World Champion from Finland led the ranking with a top time of 1:17.375 minutes.
Only his team mate Sebastian Vettel was faster in this year’s winter tests. The man from Heppenheim, who was no longer in action on Friday, brought the clock to a halt on Thursday at 1:17.182 minutes.
World champion Lewis Hamilton (England) didn’t set a record in the test final either. The 33-year-old drove 97 laps in the Mercedes until 1.00 p. m. and thus most of the drivers, for his best he needed 1:19.646 minutes.
In the afternoon he handed over the silver arrow to his team mate Valtteri Bottas (Finland).
The problem child was once again McLaren. The Bolide of former world champion Fernando Alonso rolled out with an oil leak shortly after ten o’ clock, the Renault engine of the MCL33 had to be replaced.
On Wednesday, the team complained about the same problem and Alonso was incapacitated for six and a half hours. For the former World Champion team it was the sixth defect on the eighth day.
With the end of the tests, the teams are no longer allowed to use their cars on the track until the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The 23rd.
