The gala of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on Saturday evening in Straubing was dominated by the silver heroes of Pyeongchang.
The team of national coach Marco Sturm, who had celebrated the greatest success of German ice hockey history with the sensational final at the Olympics, entered the Golden Book of Straubing.
“This is a very special moment for German ice hockey,”said DEL Supervisory Board Chairman Jürgen Arnold, who was “still completely under the impression of our boys’ mad performance in Korea”.
DEB President added:”You can’t overestimate this achievement. We hope that it will provide an initial spark for our sport.”
Silver medalist Yannic Seidenberg was also named Defender of the Year. His Munich club-mate Keith Aucoin was honoured as Player of the Year and best striker.
Dustin Strahlmeier from Schwenningen won the category Goalkeeper of the Year, while Phil Hungerecker was voted Best Rookie by Adlern Mannheim.
Thomas Popiesch, who led the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven into the play-offs for the second time in a row, was named coach of the year.
