Coentrao explains time of suffering in Madrid
For defender Fabio Coentrao, Sporting Lisbon’s lending business is a stroke of luck, and he talks critically about his time at Real Madrid.
In the 2017/18 season Fabio Coentrao moved on loan from Real Madrid to Sporting Lisbon. And the loan deal was obviously good for the Portuguese man.
While he only made six appearances at Real last season, he was already on the pitch for Sporting in 33 games this season,”It’s all going very well,”said the 29-year-old in an interview with the Marca.
He looks back critically on his time under coach Zinedine Zidane in Madrid,”The truth is that when someone criticises you, he ignores a few things. I had Marcelo in front of me! Mar-ce-lo! We’re not talking about some kind of player. He has done an enormous amount of work. In Madrid, I often wondered what was going on with me, whether I had forgotten how to play football,”said the left-back.
I know that I had weak games when I didn’t work well in general, but I also did good things that people didn’t realize,”says Coentrao.
I would like to stay with Sporting until the end of my career, because this is where I found happiness. I’m doing a good job here and I’m very happy, but I have a contract with Real Madrid and have to respect the people who have given me a lot for seven years,”says the Portuguese.
The rental deal between Real and Sporting is valid until summer. Coentrao’s contract in Madrid will then run for another year until June 2019.
