Frustration in the relegation fight!
Munich and Lille – After the match between Lille and Montpellier there are riots. Frustrated spectators storm the lawn, players are beaten and kicked.
In the relegation fight of the French Ligue 1, riots of the worst kind occurred after the match between OSC Lille and HSC Montpellier.
Immediately after the final whistle of the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, OSC supporters stormed the lawn and ran towards their own players to confront them (results and schedule of Ligue 1).
Worse still, the players of the penultimate in the standings from Lille even received strikes and kicks from their own spectators.
Within seconds, the chaotics had taken over the pitch and the security forces were unable to react so quickly. Only after a few minutes the situation was under control again, a safety belt was formed around the cabin entrance. Even those parts of the followers tried to break through – but without success.
“I can’t understand this reaction,”said Captain Ibrahim Amadou later on,”You reacted as if the season had already ended and we had already relegated, leaving nine games to go. I totally agree that they are disappointed. But they could have expressed their resentment differently.”
In conclusion, he once again addressed his own supporters:”Those who want to support us until the end of the season are warmly welcome in the stadium – there is no need for everyone else to come back”.
Lille’s managing director Marc Ingla has already announced consequences for the troublemakers (The Ligue 1 table).
“This is unacceptable,”Ingla said after the game:”There will be no tolerance whatsoever. We will filter out individual acts of violence and impose appropriate penalties.”
Nicolas Pepe (41th) had taken the lead against Montpellier shortly before the break, but Jerome Roussillon (64th) was equalised to prevent the hosts’ first win since 28th place. January (the game in TELEGRAMM)
