Ballack leather against referee
FC Chelsea will be denied a penalty after a controversial duel in Barcelona in the second leg. Ex-Chelsea pro Michael Ballack is reacting.
Former international Michael Ballack has reacted angrily to a controversial scene in the Champions League match between Barcelona FC and its former employer Chelsea (3-0).
“Always the same,”Ballack wrote on Twitter and added the hash day “#referee”.
The former midfielder was referring to a duel shortly after the first half, when Chelsea pro Marcos Alonso knocked down Marcos Alonso 2-0 for the Catalans after a contact with Barca defender Gerard Pique in the penalty area, but did not receive a penalty from referee Damir Skomina (Slovenia).
Ballack was desperate in 2009, even in a class-leading duel with Barca, when several questionable decisions by the Norwegian referee Tom Henning Övrebö in favor of Barcas led to major protests at Chelsea.
