Superstar Rossi extends contract
Valentino Rossi still hasn’t had enough. The now 39-year-old Italian extends his contract with Yamaha.
Superstar Valentino Rossi will remain in MotoGP for at least another two years. The 39-year-old Italian has signed his expiring contract with the Yamaha factory team three days before the start of the World Motorcycle Championship in Doha/Katar (18. March) and will be launched in the premier class until 2020.
“During the last two years I have come to the realization that I want to continue. Racing, being a MotoGP driver, especially on my M1 – that’s what makes me happy,”Rossi said.
The nine-time World Champion has won four MotoGP titles for the Japanese, his last triumph so far in 2009. Rossi was under contract with Yamaha from 2014 to 2010, after two disappointing years with Ducati, he returned in 2013 and has been runners-up three times since then.
The agreement makes it clear that Rossi will continue to race at the age of 40. On the 16th. February 2019 he celebrates his birthday. Rossi, 125cc, 250cc and 500cc world champions before his MotoGP career, holds numerous records. Among other things, he leads the best list of World Championship race starts (361) and podium places (226) .
