Halep embarrasses himself in the semi-finals of Indian Wells
Simona Halep surprisingly misses the final of Indian Wells. The world number one clearly fails against an unseeded Japanese woman.
The world’s first Simona Halep surprisingly dropped out of the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Indian Wells/California. The 26-year-old Romanian lost to the undisputed Naomi Osaka from Japan after only 64 minutes 3:6 and 0:6.
Osaka will face Darja Kassatkina in the final. The 20-ranked Russian, clear winner of the quarter-finals 6-0, 6-2 against Angelique Kerber, eliminated Venus Williams (USA/No. 8) in the last four round 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
“I just wasn’t ready. I often missed the ball and didn’t play the game I should have played,” Halep said: “I’m not looking for excuses. She was better.”
