Ancelotti: Bavaria no Champions League favourite
Carlo Ancelotti does not see his former club Bayern Munich as favorites for winning the Champions League. Two Spanish teams have an advantage.
FC Bayern has defeated FC Sevilla (3rd place). and 11. April) have a good chance of making it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Coach Carlo Ancelotti still doesn’t see his former club as top candidates for the top league win.
“Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are my favourites,” Ancelotti told the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, “because of their experience. And because they have Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”
The three-time Champions League winner had failed with the Bavarians in the quarter-finals last season due to Real. After a weak start to the new season, the record German champions pulled the ripcord in late September in response to the 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain and replaced the 58-year-old Italian with Jupp Heynckes.
Ancelotti has been without a club since then, but wants to return to the training ground in the near future.
“I love this job,” he emphasised, but for the time being rejected speculations about a timely engagement as coach of the Italian national team:”I have not yet made a decision. “I’ll take my time until June.”
Former professional and U21 coach Luigi di Biagio looks after the Italians after the failed qualification for the World Cup under Gian Piero Ventura.
The association wants to present a new strong man in the summer at the latest, who will initiate the new beginning of the “Azzurri”. Ancelotti is considered a hot candidate, but is said to still have offers from European clubs.
Most recently he was associated with the London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal as well as Paris Saint-Germain. Chelsea and PSG he had already trained.
