Bet drives Ronaldo’s race to catch up
Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid had to struggle with a crisis at the beginning of the season: he did not score the goal any more. A bet gave him extra motivation.
It wasn’t long ago that Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid was still in a crisis.
Only one goal was left to him until the 11th century. Matchday in La Liga was a success. But the 33-year-old did not let himself be upset by it and suggested a courageous bet to his fellow players after the 3-0 win over UD Las Palmas, reported the journalist Jose Ramon de la Morena on Radio Onda Cero.
Ronaldo claimed he would be the league’s top scorer, his arch-rival Lionel Messi had already scored twelve goals at the time.
Two of his teammates are said to have accepted the bet. The stake: a large sum of money that the loser has to donate to a charitable institution.
For Ronaldo, the bet is obviously an extra motivation. He scored only one goal in the seven games before the bet and three in the seven games after. At the turn of the year, the Portuguese really turned up the heat.
In eleven games in 2018, Ronaldo scored 18 goals. To overtake Messi, who stands at 25 ligators, the Real attacker still has nine games left.
If Ronaldo keeps his goal rate that high, he has a good chance of winning his bet.
