Storm invites Merkel into the cabin
German national coach Marco Sturm talks about the upcoming Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark. Sturm hopes to see Angela Merkel in the cabin soon.
Ice hockey national coach Marco Sturm has invited Angela Merkel to visit the Olympic heroes in the cabin after an international match.
“A visit to our cabin by the Chancellor would be a great honour for us. She seems to be a sports fan and may be able to catch up in the near future,” said Sturm der Sport Bild.
In the past, Merkel had personally congratulated the national soccer team several times in the cabin, among others after the World Cup victory in Brazil in 2014. Cabin-Selfies with the silver medal winners of Pyeongchang did not take place.
In contrast to Merkel, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the German ice hockey team was a fan from the very beginning; he visited the team before the Olympic kick-off and spoke to players and supporters.
“One day before the final he called us again from Germany”, Sturm revealed: “Moritz Müller immediately asked him what the situation was like with the GroKo (Grand Coalition/Editorial)”.
Merkel could pay the ice hockey players a possible visit at the upcoming World Championships in Denmark (from 4. Mai LIVE on TV on SPORT1).
After the sensational success at the Olympics, Sturm is not afraid to disappoint and calls for calmness: “I am looking forward to the new challenge. But it is clear that we have a difficult task ahead of us. We don’t suddenly win the games on our own”.
After the World Cup, players can revel in their memories all summer long,” said the national team coach – perhaps even from a meeting with Angela Merkel.
