Martinez on disembarkation: “coach never spoke to me”
Bavaria’s Javi Martinez is not in the squad in the test matches against Germany and Argentina. He did not receive an explanation from the Spanish national coach.
If Germany play Spain in Friday’s friendly match (from 8.45 pm at LIVETICKER), Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez will not be there.
The Spaniard was selected for both the match against Germany and Argentina (27. March) by national coach Julen Lopetegui.
Martinez has been waiting for a nomination for a year now. Lopetegui has not explained this decision to the 29-year-old, however, as Martinez told ESPN.
“He never called me and said nothing,” said Martinez.
But the Munich native is still hoping for a nomination for the World Cup in Russia: “I know it’s hard to get into the national team. There are a lot of good players there,” Martinez said.
Many people had asked him why he was not nominated: “I think I have to work. I will not give up and I will continue to work to achieve my goal,” said the 29-year-old. However, if the Bayern player is not nominated for the World Cup, this is “not the end of his career”.
Martinez won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship with Spain and was also in the squad for the 2014 World Cup. He missed the 2016 European Championship due to injury.
