The crash in Melbourne qualifying has far-reaching consequences for Valtteri Bottas.
As Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff confirmed, the gearbox on the silver arrow of the Finn has to be changed.
This means that the 28-year-old will compete in the Australian Grand Prix (Sun, from 7.10 a.m. in the LIVETICKER) from tenth to 15th place. Launch site relegated.
“The chassis is fine, the transmission isn’t. That makes five places,” Wolff said succinctly.
From the Austrian’s point of view, the accident could have yet another negative component for Bottas: “Before the first race such a thing is not good for the psyche. We as a team must support him there.”
