Greek championship continues
At the weekend the ball is rolling in the first league in Greece. Following incidents in Thessaloniki, the government has previously suspended play.
After a break of almost three weeks, the Greek football championship will continue on Saturday and Sunday. This was announced by league officials to the country’s media on Monday. After numerous scandalous incidents, the Greek government started playing the game in the 12th century. March to rest.
This decision was triggered by the improper conduct of Ivan Savvidis. The day before, the owner of PAOK Saloniki had run onto the pitch with a gun on his belt in the top game of the cup winner against AEK Athens.
Also in the PAOK stadium, guest coach Oscar Garcia of Olympiakos Piraeus was hit in the head by an object at the end of February. As a reaction to the first penalty imposed, angry PAOK fans stormed a TV studio and forced the presenter to read a letter of protest.
A month earlier, the government had already imposed a ban on fans of the top clubs Olympiakos, PAOK, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens because of repeated excesses of violence. In an independent scandal about game manipulation in Greek football in 2011, 58 people were sentenced to up to ten years in prison a few days later in Athens.
