Official confirmation is still pending. But it is only a matter of a few days until Abdou Diallo (22)’s change officially takes place. The Mainz central defender could become the second most expensive Dortmunder purchase of history. It is said to cost 28 million euros.
Neither Michael Zorc as sports director of Borussia Dortmund nor Rouven Schröder, board member for sports in Mainz, declared the transfer to be complete on Sunday. The two negotiators confirmed the clear tendency, yes – and good discussions, too, but not yet implemented. Things are “not yet finalised”, Zorc said, “final details have to be clarified”, Schröder revealed. Diallo’s medical check in Dortmund is also still outstanding. Provided there are no complaints, the Frenchman will sign a contract with Borussia until 2023.
With this signature, a “typical BVB transfer” would then be perfect, as Zorc said on Sunday. “Typical”, because Diallo is a “smart, modern and strong footballer”, but also an “even more capable of development”. For him, the Westphalians have to dig deep into their pockets. According to reports, Diallo will be charged around 28 million Euro. Dortmund only paid more for André Schürrle (30 million, 2016), then to VfL Wolfsburg.
