Race Night in Essen: Lifetime achievement award for Jean Todt
Touching moment: On Friday, FIA President Jean Todt was awarded the Golden Shoe for his life’s work at the Race Night in Essen.
Last Friday the 51st Essen Motor Show opened with the 17th Race Night of Auto Bild motorsport and Auto Bild sportscars. During the event as a media partner, there was an emotional highlight when the former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt was awarded the Golden Shoe for Life’s Work.
“I’m very touched, I almost have to cry,” said Todt after the laudation of his successor as Ferrari team boss, Stefano Domenicali. And he recalled his companion Michael Schumacher: “There are pictures of him everywhere in my offices and apartments. I will always remember my time with Michael as the best of my life. We love each other because we have written an incredible story together. And because we have always held together in difficult times.”
Domenicali had previously praised his long-time boss at Ferrari: “I spent more time with him than with my family. When you spend hours and hours together in the office, you get very close. That’s why I know that all his success figures, titles or awards didn’t just fall from the sky or were pure luck. No, they are the result of his full commitment.”
“Jean Todt’s approach and leadership style were the key to Ferrari’s success,” says Domenicali. “This man has devoted himself entirely to his task and has always put his foot down – from the early hours of the morning until deep into the night. He made sure everyone in the team was motivated and working in one direction. There was never time to relax, whether we won or lost. So we reached a very high standard. The results speak for themselves”.
