Draw in Rome: Zaniolo counters Piatek
In Rome on Sunday evening there was a classic on the programme: The Roma had AC Milan as a guest – and after the recent cup blasphemy they were out to save their honour. The Giallorossi were trailing at first, but made up for it in an intense but not necessarily fast-paced game and scored a point in the end.
During the week the Roma had experienced a debacle in the cup at the 1:7 in Florence. It was against Milan, who had a strong form, that they now had to make amends – but with fresh personnel. The Dzeko tank and veteran de Rossi, among others, returned to the starting eleven, while Florenzi was able to return to the offensive wing, where he feels more comfortable.
Milan, who, unlike Roma, reached the semi-finals thanks to a 2-0 win over Napoli, also had new faces in the opening line-up: Calhanoglu and Suso, for example, struck from the start. But the first goal of the day was scored by a man who had already made headlines against Napoli. After an initial 25-minute period, Pellegrini was a bit of a dilettante against Lucas Paqueta on his own sixteenth, who stole the ball and then served it to Piatek. The Polish newcomer to the winter, who had already scored twice against Naples, proved his instincts once again and set the score at 1-0 (26th).
It took the Roma a long time to recover from the blow, but they almost equalised in this slow-paced game before the break. However, Milan’s goalkeeper Donnarumma reacted brilliantly against Schick and was then also on the spot at Dzekos Abstauber (45th).

After the change of sides, however, there was the bang – and again a defender played a central role. This time Musacchio was unlucky on a Karsdorp flank and almost scored an own goal, which Donnarumma prevented with a great reflex. Against Zaniolo’s additional shot, however, the 19-year-old goalkeeper’s exceptional talent was powerless (46).
Everything was back at par – which meant that both teams were back on the defensive and largely stopped their offensive efforts. As a result, not much happened, the game splashed before Pellegrini headed for the right post after Kolarov’s flank (82nd).
It was the last real highlight in this game, in which the Roma were overweight towards the end and had one or two promising actions. More than the 1:1 was still not possible.
