Legend to the power of 6! Tom Brady and the Patriots Dynasty
It wasn’t a crashing NFL endgame, but it was an exciting one for a long time. Super Bowl LIII (53) between the Los Angeles Rams (NFC) and New England Patriots (AFC) offered few offensive highlights, but in the end a well deserved and well-known winner: 13:3 won the Pats. Tom Brady and his team crowned themselves champions for the sixth time. The legend of the 41-year-old continues.
The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl for the sixth time and equalled record winner Pittsburgh Steelers. In Atlanta/Georgia at the bombastic Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the AFC champion beat Los Angeles Rams 13:3 in an offensively disappointing NFL final.
Curious: There has never been a lower score (16) in a Super Bowl before – also the fact that both teams remained without touchdown until the fourth quarter was unique. New England, who failed a year ago in the final against the Philadelphia Eagles, had previously won the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015 and 2017.
With their success in the 53rd Super Bowl, Brady (41) and head coach Bill Belichick (66) improved their already impressive record. The congenial duo has directed all six title wins in a total of nine final appearances since 2000/01, both on and off the pitch. On the other hand, the rams around their inexperienced quarterback Jared Goff (24), who came under a lot of pressure and made many wrong decisions, and Sean McVay (33), the youngest coach in Super Bowl history, have to wait for the second championship. The franchise had triumphed for the only time in 2000, when the Rams were still at home in St Louis, beating Tennessee Titans 23-16 in Atlanta.
“It was an incredible season. I can’t believe we are Super Bowl Champion! It was a dream come true for all of us,” said Brady, beaming with joy at the end of the match at the side of his children and wife Gisele Bündchen (38) and praising his opponent: “They had a great defense.
Two men have achieved the greatest thing ever: Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
Patriots owner Robert K. Kraft
“There’s been one constant in the last 18 years. Two men have achieved the greatest thing ever: Bill Belichick and Tom Brady,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft praised the duo. “Because of their hard work and true leadership I can say for the sixth time: We are all Patriots!
“TB12” and a unique story
The game in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium started very badly for the aforementioned Pats: Brady, who had already entered the race as the sole record quarterback of the NFL, had an interception right at his first pass, kicker Stephen Gostkowski also made a field goal attempt from 46 yards next to it.
