Rüdiger: “I’m not standing in line”
He still dances with FC Chelsea on three weddings: Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup. And in the Premier League it’s all about securing fourth place for his Blues. But Antonio Rüdiger doesn’t set any priorities: “Title is title”, he says in the kicker interview (Thursday edition) before the duel with champions ManCity, against the same rivals it’s also the end of February in the league cup final.
In this conversation he takes a clear stand on several topics: On the rumour that he drove to the WRC with a shisha in his luggage: “I can look in the mirror and know that’s not true.” Regarding his role in the German national team, he says: “I’m not going to stand in line”. But great words are not his way, “I always refer to the performance principle on the pitch”. To the expectations of his team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was not allowed to switch to FC Bayern: “He’s only 18. And you should let him be 18.”
Under Maurizio Sarri, Rüdiger is an integral part of Chelsea. The defender played 24 league games in the current season and scored his only goal of the season to date in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.
