Nowitzki scores everything – Team LeBron scores 178 points
Top marks for Dirk Nowitzki at his 14th and probably last appearance at the All-Star-Game of the NBA. The man from Würzburg got four minutes of playing time in Charlotte and made the most of it with three converted threes. Team LeBron won the colorful hustle and bustle against Team Giannis 178:164, MVP became Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors.
Nowitzki was one of the losers, but was one of the winners in Charlotte. The audience celebrated the NBA veteran invited next to Dwyane Wade (37, Miami Heat) during his short mission. The 40-year-old transformed all three attempts “from downtown” and visibly enjoyed the short performance.
“It was great. I just wanted to play for a few minutes and hit a threesome. And that’s exactly what happened,” said Germany’s basketball icon. “It was an honor to play with the guys again and a great weekend for me.” Nowitzki had been involved in the Rising Stars game as a coach and was also in the trio competition at the start. In view of the busy schedule at the weekend, he felt like “a chicken running around with its head cut off”, the Würzburg native joked with emotion: “I don’t think I’ll really understand it until it’s all over”.
Kevin Durant of Champion Golden State was elected MVP. With 31 points, the 30-year-old was the most successful scorer in the victorious LeBron team, which fired a total of 91 trials in three. The top scorer of the game was the captain and namesake of the opposing team – Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek young star scored 38 points and won eleven rebounds.
For the team of Lakers superstar LeBron James it was the second victory in a row. In the third section “King” & Co. were 20 points behind. Last year Team LeBron won 148:145 against Warriors playmaker Stephen Curry.
