Kahun’s catch-up hunt unrewarded – Hattrick Pavelski
Sharks captain Joe Pavelski was the man of the evening on Sunday in Detroit, in Arizona the coyotes surprised Winnipeg. From a German point of view, Dominik Kahun and the Chicago Blackhawks lost in the fight for the play-off. The team from Illinois had to admit defeat to the Dallas Stars 3:4 (0:2, 2:1, 1:1) in their own hall on Sunday.
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was able to make up for an early three-goal deficit in the 45th minute. Jason Spezza (49th minute) made the decision in favour of the Texans.
Chicago are 61 points behind the play-off places in the Western Conference after their second defeat in a row. The team is currently five points behind the last wildcard place.
Rifle Festival in Washington
At the 6-5 Washington Peat Festival, the Caps took the upper hand in a highly entertaining duel against the Rangers. Chris Kreider was the only leader of the New Yorkers (1.), then the hosts, including double goal scorer Nicklas Backstrom, turned up the ball and after two two-goal lead (3:1; 5:3) seemed on the winning track. Brady Skjei put the Capitals through their paces 31 seconds before the end, but Evgeny Kuznetsov made the final decision in overtime 40 seconds before the end.
Pavelski in the end single-handedly
Joe Pavelski was mainly responsible for San Jose’s 5-3 away win in Detroit. At first it didn’t look good for the Sharks, the Red Wings took the lead in the middle third to 3:1. But Brent Burns (34th) as well as Pavelski (36th, 37th) provided a series of goals for the sharks, and the captain finally bagged the victory with his fifth hat-trick in the final minute.
In Arizona, Patrik Laine used an overpayment for the favoured jets to take the lead (3rd), Brad Richardson countered immediately for the home side (6th). Arizona’s goalie Darcy Kuemper (34 saves) could not be overcome, his colleagues Lawson Crouse (28.), Clayton Keller (34.) and Josh Archibald (60.) scored to 4:1 and thus provided the sixth victory from the past eight games.
