Rain: Petkovic and Friedsam must be patient
His nickname “Sunshine State” did not do justice to Florida on Tuesday (local time). Instead of sun it poured out all clouds. Also the matches of the Miami Open fell into the water. Much to the chagrin of two German players
Andrea Petkovic and Anna-Lena Friedsam were supposed to enter the Miami WTA tournament on Tuesday. But the weather put a spoke in the wheel for the German tennis ladies.
Because it rained almost the whole day. First Petkovic, who will face the US American Amanda Anisimova in the first round, and Friedsam, who will face the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, had to wait for hours. Then all games for Tuesday were cancelled, Petkovic and Friedsam had to pack their bags again.
The opening games of Petkovic and Friedsam are to be made up on Wednesday (local time), but the organizers have not yet given exact times. Laura Siegemund’s qualifying match against Polona Hercog from Slovenia will also be played on Wednesday.
On Wednesday Tatjana Maria (against Slovak Anna Schmiedlova) will also enter the women’s tournament, Mona Barthel will also have to deal with the Swiss Viktorija Golubic in the qualification. In the men’s singles, Mischa Zverez (against German Spaniard Nicola Kuhn) and Peter Gojowczyk (against Argentinian Federico Delbonis) will be challenged. In the night session Maximilian Marterer will face the US-American Taylor Harry Fritz.
