Embiid blocks Irving – Hardens 57 are not enough
In the fight for a place in the Eastern Conference Top 4, the Philadelphia 76ers have narrowly won their home game against Boston Celtics. While the weakened Milwaukee Bucks lost to Kellerkind Cleveland, OKC slipped to eighth place in the west. Once again James Harden could not get enough. The NBA of Wednesday.
The fight for first place in the east has become exciting again after the surprising defeat of the Bucks at the Cavs (102:107 again without the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo). The Toronto Raptors approached Milwaukee by 123:114 after extra time at the stumbling Oklahoma City Thunder (Russell Westbrook: 42 points, eleven rebounds; Dennis Schröder: 12/7/4) up to two victories.
Behind the Bucks and the Raptors, the Philadelphia 76ers have established themselves in third place, underpinned by a 118:115 win over the Boston Celtics. Joel Embiid (37 points, career best with 22 rebounds), who dominates among the baskets, and Jimmy Butler (22 points, 15 of them in Q4) in the hot phase, led the way in the 47th victory of the Sixers this season. Embiid blocked Kyrie Irving (36 points) 35 seconds before the end, on the other side Butler pocketed the decisive jump throw five seconds before the end.
Mavs slide to penultimate place
The downward slide of the Dallas Mavericks continued in Portland. Maxi Kleber was injured in the 118:126 of the Mavs, Dirk Nowitzki scored three points. Despite the demands from the audience, the man from Würzburg did not return to the court in the final phase – so Nowitzki received great sympathy in his possibly final season also in Oregon. Match winner was Damian Lillard with 33 points, Luka Doncic came in the ninth Mavs defeat of his team in the past ten games to 24 points.
While Dallas now have only Phoenix left behind them in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder slipped to eighth place after losing to Toronto. Despite a 57-point gala from James Harden, the Houston Rockets lost to the Memphis Grizzlies after extra time with 125:126. For Harden it was the seventh 50plus game in the current season – previously only Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant succeeded.
