Shane Lowry has responded to a journalist who distorted his words and shared them online.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open 2024 has concluded, marking the 6th PGA Tour event of the year. The tournament witnessed an incredible comeback win, with Shane Lowry emerging as the champion. However, amidst the excitement, Lowry’s name has garnered attention for a different reason.
The TPC Scottsdale, where the WM Phoenix Open took place, is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere. Despite adverse weather conditions during Round 1 that caused delays, numerous fans attended the event. When asked if he would engage in celebrations with the fans, Lowry firmly declined.
During the tournament, the Irish golfer engaged in conversations with some spectators and jokingly advised young people to either go home or find local bars instead of enduring the rain. Unfortunately, Golf Digest’ distorted Lowry’s response and claimed that he wanted the fans to leave the scene entirely. Lowry was displeased with this misrepresentation and promptly confronted the reporter, clarifying that his words were sarcastic and taken out of context.
Shane Lowry faced challenges in 2023, despite his success with Team Europe at the Ryder Cup. The season did not yield many positive results for him. However, he is determined to make a comeback in 2024.
In the current year, Lowry has participated in only three PGA Tour events. His debut at the American Express Championship resulted in him failing to make the cut, finishing 12-under. However, he managed to overcome this setback by making the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. With scores of 66, 73, 73, and 70, he finished tied for 25th place with a score of 6-under.
Unfortunately, the Waste Management Phoenix Open did not end as Lowry had hoped. Despite a strong start with a score of 4-under 67 in the first round, he fell behind the leader by two strokes. The final round proved to be challenging, resulting in a disappointing score of 5-over 76.
These additional shots significantly impacted his position on the leaderboard, ultimately tying him for 60th place in the tournament. Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to witness how Lowry rebounds from these setbacks, considering his overall performance was not as poor as his final score suggests.
