Commissioner Rob Manfred discussed potential future hosts for the All-Star Game during a media session on Thursday. While nothing is set in stone yet, Manfred hinted that the Blue Jays and Cubs are strong contenders to host the event in 2027 and ’28. According to Manfred, Toronto and Chicago both have favorable factors that make them appealing choices for the All-Star festivities.
Toronto last held the All-Star Game in 1991, marking the only time in the team’s history that they hosted the event. On the other hand, Chicago has a rich history of hosting the All-Star Game, with seven previous occasions – second only to New York. The city of Chicago last hosted in 2003 at the White Sox’s stadium, while Wrigley Field last welcomed the All-Star Game in 1990 for the third time in its history.
The upcoming All-Star Game locations have already been determined, with Arlington set to host this summer for the first time since Globe Life Field opened four years ago. Atlanta will follow in 2025, after originally being scheduled to host in 2021 before the game was moved to Colorado. Philadelphia has been chosen to host the 2026 Midsummer Classic in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The 2027-28 All-Star Games will mark the end of Manfred’s time as commissioner, as he announced his retirement at the conclusion of his current term in January ’29. Manfred emphasized the importance of cities being willing to provide the necessary facilities and support for the All-Star events, making Toronto and Chicago strong candidates for future hosting duties.
