Christian Horner admitted that Red Bull had encountered more challenging races in recent weeks as their rivals began to catch up with them. In the past couple of races, Red Bull has been unable to maintain its dominant position on the F1 grid. However, Horner, the Team Principal, seemed satisfied after winning two out of the last three races.
Horner explained that winning the recent race made him feel content, especially considering the difficult obstacles they had faced. The last few races have highlighted an issue with the RB20’s performance on certain kerbs. Nevertheless, the team is now focused on improving their performance in specific races later in the year, such as Singapore.
The 50-year-old acknowledged that teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes have become highly competitive at every race track. Despite winning six out of nine races this season, Horner understands the importance of staying ahead of these teams by performing exceptionally well. Previously, he claimed that the recent competition was an inevitable result of convergence.
Horner mentioned that Mercedes has historically performed well on race tracks like Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Canada, which lack fast corners. However, he also speculated that the recent resurfacing of the track may have favored the silver arrows.
Christian Horner is eager to observe Mercedes’ performance in the upcoming races to determine whether their success in Canada was a consistent improvement or merely a one-time occurrence. Red Bull had not faced a significant threat from Mercedes before the Montreal weekend.
However, based on the current situation, if Mercedes continues to perform in this manner, Horner and his team will need to make improvements to their RB20 to solidify their advantage on the grid once again. Similarly, Mercedes fans would like to see consistency in their performance and a higher rank in the constructors’ championship.
