Pecco Bagnaia, a member of the 2025 Ducati team, took the lead in the opening practice session for MotoGP’s Dutch TT at Assen, with his team-mate Marc Marquez closely behind. However, VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio briefly surpassed Bagnaia’s time, only to have his lap invalidated due to a track limits violation, causing him to fall back to seventh place. As a result, Bagnaia maintained his position at the top, leading Marquez by a margin of 0.065s. It is worth noting that Bagnaia did not improve his time during the final runs on soft tires, while Marquez achieved his best lap just before making a detour at the chicane on his last run.
Surprisingly, the third and fourth positions were claimed by Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, who made significant gains in the rankings with their late runs on soft tires. Maverick Vinales and championship leader Jorge Martin opted to stick with medium tires until the end of the session, finishing in fifth and tenth place respectively. Martin initially topped the session with an early lap that held the lead for a considerable period of time. Meanwhile, Vinales’ Aprilia teammate Aleix Espargaro encountered mechanical issues at the start of the session but managed to secure sixth place by the end.
