Doriane Pin has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15-16 June following a recent incident at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit that resulted in broken ribs.
Due to her new commitment to the F1 Academy and Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA), Pin had planned to step back from her 2024 World Endurance Championship obligations, except for the Le Mans 24 Hours.
However, there has been a change in plans. Rahel Frey will now replace Pin from the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps until the end of the season, including the fourth WEC round.
The 20-year-old French driver stated, “After further medical examinations, it was discovered that I have fractured ribs. This means that I require time to heal, so the team and I have made the difficult decision not to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans or the FRECA races in Zandvoort.
“This decision is challenging and saddening, especially since Le Mans is one of the most significant races of the year and holds a special place in my heart. I was eagerly anticipating driving there and sharing that week with all of you and, of course, my team.
“However, I must prioritize my well-being and the well-being of the Iron Dames.”
Frey, who has previously competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times with the all-female Iron Dames team, will now participate for the fifth time in place of Pin. She will join teammates Michelle Gatting and Sarah Bovy.
After securing their first WEC victory at the Bahrain season finale last year, the trio continues their journey into the LMGT3 era with their #85 Lamborghini Huracan LMGT3 EVO2 for this year’s 92nd edition of Le Mans.
