Gasly informed the press that he recognizes the “enormous potential” in Alpine
Pierre Gasly has clarified his choice to commit to Alpine’s Formula 1 team for the long term, stating that he sees “tremendous potential” in the Esntone-Viry squad.
Alpine’s 2024 season began in chaotic circumstances, arriving in Bahrain with arguably the slowest package.
However, three consecutive weekends in the points have demonstrated signs of improvement, and while Esteban Ocon has chosen to move elsewhere in 2025, Gasly has opted to remain with the Anglo-French Alpine team for next year and beyond.
The Frenchman explained that his decision to stay is based on what lies ahead, rather than the poor results that Alpine has had to endure up until its recent improvement.
“It definitely hasn’t been the results so far that I’ve dreamed of with the team, but I definitely believe there’s enormous potential,” Gasly said.
“I’ve observed numerous positive indications occurring within the team, not only at the track but also back at the factory.
“I closely followed the development for 2026, which, to me, was the most crucial aspect for my next contract because we are entering a new regulation, and then it was a continuous conversation, very open, and the team clearly demonstrated from day one a great deal of interest and a desire to work with me, which is something of great importance to me, working with people who are genuinely striving to obtain you and want you to be a part of the project.”
Gasly highlighted that Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo and Alpine Team Principal Bruno Famin played a significant role in persuading him to remain with the team as he evaluated how the team responded at the factory regarding technical recruitment after the team’s poor start to the season.
David Sanchez now leads a three-pronged technical structure, and controversial figure Flavio Briatore has returned to Esntone as an Executive Advisor.
However, rumors have been circulating that de Meo could either sell the team or consider abandoning its plans to produce a 2026 power unit and instead become a customer F1 outfit.
Gasly dismissed these rumors and stated that the commitment from Renault and de Meo is unwavering.
“I don’t fully comprehend the stories about the commitment from Renault because there is a lot of news out there, but I have regular conversations with Luca almost weekly, and it has been very clear, and I think it has been very clear in the media that his goal in F1 is to bring the team forward, and he is 100% committed to Alpine,” Gasly said.
“So it has never really been a question mark on my side, and I know the level of commitment the brand has with Renault, with Alpine, and I also know how much belief they have in the team and how much belief I have in the individuals we have in Enstone and in Viry.”
