Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner faced questions during the press conferences for the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix regarding the recent claims made by Jos Verstappen. Verstappen, the father of Max Verstappen, had been scheduled to participate in the Austrian GP Legends parade driving the 2012 Red Bull RB8. However, he decided to withdraw from the event and placed the blame on Horner. Verstappen expressed his disappointment, stating that he had heard from multiple sources that Horner had intentionally prevented him from driving and being filmed. He described Horner’s actions as childish and expressed his frustration with the situation. This is not the first time Verstappen has had issues with Horner this year, as he previously accused him of misconduct that was later dismissed. Horner, on the other hand, denied any involvement in preventing Verstappen from participating in the parade and emphasized the strong relationship between himself and Max Verstappen.
“He is an integral part of our team. He is the individual who holds great significance in maintaining a strong connection.
“In the past, I have never encountered any problems with the fathers of our drivers. Whatever concerns Jos may have, I have no comments to make.
“My primary interest lies in the team’s performance. We possess an exceptional team.
“We have exceptional drivers, particularly Max, who is undeniably the finest driver in the world. He joined our team as a young individual and has continuously developed and flourished.
“He has evolved both as a driver and as a person. The manner in which he conducts himself and collaborates with the team is remarkable. And that is my utmost concern.
“It revolves around the team’s performance. It centers on how the team operates. Despite the challenges faced this year, we have still emerged victorious in 70% of the races, including two sprint races and securing seven poles. We are leading in both world championships.
“Hence, certain aspects of life are beyond our control. I cannot control the relationships with drivers’ fathers. However, my focus remains on the drivers’ performance and the team’s performance. That is where my attention will be directed.”
Jos appears determined to disrupt the dynamics within the Red Bull setup, particularly concerning his son and Horner. Nevertheless, the latter refuses to allow conflicts or diversions to take precedence.
“I believe it is not beneficial to continue discussing Jos,” he expressed.
“Our primary focus is firmly on Max. He is our driver, the one we have a contractual agreement with, and the one we are determined to win this grand prix with.”
