The highly anticipated debut of Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson in the IndyCar series is just around the corner at the prestigious Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Representing Arrow McLaren, Larson will be driving the sponsored car from HendricCars.com, and many in the racing community believe he has a strong chance of contending for the race victory.
However, the Indy 500 week poses a challenge for Larson as he will have to quickly travel to Charlotte for the Coke 600, the longest race in the Cup schedule, immediately after the race at Brickyard. Prior to this weekend’s Cup race at Darlington, the reigning 2021 Champion was asked about his plan in the event of a rain delay at Indy.
Larson, driving for Chevy, confirmed that if the Indy 500 experiences a significant delay, he would opt to skip the race and instead compete at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He emphasized that the Coco Cola 600 holds greater priority for him, as it could determine his chances of securing a second Cup Series championship.
Additionally, Larson revealed that in the event of such unfortunate circumstances, he would be replaced by a legendary driver who mentored him during his training for the Indy 500. Larson is hopeful that he won’t have to exit the Indy 500 in that manner.
Motorsports fans are undoubtedly hoping that Kyle Larson won’t encounter such unfavorable circumstances that would render his year-long efforts futile. A strong performance from Larson at both Indy and Charlotte in the same week has the potential to inspire countless racers.
