McLaren has introduced a number of updates for this weekend’s Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix in their pursuit to catch up with Red Bull. The team from Woking has become the main rival to Red Bull since implementing changes in Miami, which led to Lando Norris securing his first victory. While Ferrari and Mercedes have also made modifications to their cars, McLaren remains the biggest threat to Max Verstappen’s RB20. To further enhance their performance, McLaren has unveiled two modified components on the FIA’s official upgrades list for the race in Austria. These include a new front wing with a different shape and an updated front suspension to improve airflow on the MCL38.
Meanwhile, Mercedes has introduced a modified beam wing to their improving W15 charger, aiming to reduce drag by decreasing the load. Ferrari, on the other hand, will be looking to maximize the potential of their new package that was not fully utilized in Barcelona. They have added additional cooling louvres to the SF-24 at the Red Bull Ring. Red Bull is also seeking to understand the impact of their recent upgrades and will be running split-specs during the first practice session. Additionally, Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that the Faenza-based team will bring more parts for this race, including amendments to the winglets on the rear drum.
Aston Martin, Haas, Red Bull, Sauber, and Williams have not announced any new additions for this weekend’s race. This is partly due to the limited practice time, with only one hour available due to the Sprint format being used.
